Nanning 12/5/07 8:05 pm

Busy day today. We had paperwork for about 1.5 hours
this morning - completing what we could and confirming
the US side of the paperwork in prep of guangzhou.
Then lunch. Gige went down for a nap and Chloe and I
walked around the neighborhood - get a lot of stares
in this town - our guide told us we would because it
is not a tourist town and caucasians aren't usually
roaming around the streets, especially those with Asian
children. When Gigi woke up, we walked down the street
to the local park which was really beautiful - then
came back and took a cab to Walmart again - spent a
little time there but roamed around more on the ground
floor which is like a huge mall - all clothing -
didn't buy anything but it was interesting none the
less.

We went to Walmart and Pizza hut last night. The
Walmart here is quite the experience. We just picked
up a few things, diapers etc. Pizza hut was also
quite an experience - took forever to order pasta with
no sauce for the little ones! And it was mom that
finally got that one down.

Mom is cracking me up - whenever I ask someone
something - she comes up and repeats it like she is
thinking that the Chinese will understand her English
better than mine. We go to a restaraunt, I ask
"Open?" - they look at me puzzled, mom says "Are you
Open?...open?". We wandered around the hotel for
probably 30 min tonight trying to find some restaraunt
other than the "garden restaraunt" in the hotel so we
could mix things up a bit and every where we went,
they tried to direct us back to our hotel. We think
that no other place was open except the 24 hour
restaraunt in our hotel.

Y'all need to be proud of Patsy - we went to the
buffet restaraunt in the hotel tonight (the other
restaraunt) for the first time because we were
desperate. I had checked it out last night and
thought that mom wouldn't be that adventurous so I
nixed it but we were out of options so went there
tonight.

Mom tried Broccoli and squid - really, looked like a
baby octopus - I had tried it too - tasted like tuna
but was very, very surprised that she tried it. This
restaraunt actually had the best food and I was kind
of bummed we hadn't tried it earlier. The duck was
outstanding as well as the Sea Bass. The "steak from
U.S.A" was horrible. But she did mention it was the
best coffee she's had since she left the U.S. bc it
didn't grow hair on her chest.

At one point, we were all sitting at a restaraunt and
I left to use the restroom, when I came back patsy was
laughing and snorting and she said "I can't remember
what country I'm in, I keep telling the waitress
Gracias!!!".

Gianna is doing well - actually held up her arms up to
me today after I offered to pick her up so that is a
very good sign after 2.5 days! She is watching me
when I leave and looks for me when I leave the table
or room. She is still cracking up with Chloe and
CHloe is being so good about making her laugh and
entertaining her. Gige had strawberry ice cream for
what I think was the first time tonight and what a
face; but of course kept wanting more. I gave her a
bottle at about 9 last night and she went right to
sleep and I had to wake her up at 6:30. Tonight, I
gave her a bottle at 8:00 and she was done and asleep
in about 10 minutes - if this lasts it will be
absolutely wonderful.

The other night, I heard a Chinese station coming from
the tv in moms room for about 20 min before I even
thought to ask Patsy what she was watching.

"Oh just watching some TV...It's a series on
TV...pretty good".

Tonight Chloe was watching some Chinese tv and was
giving me a play-by-play about what was going on.

Tomorrow we load on to the bus at 9 am - the bus takes
us to the bus station and we get on another bus to go
to Guilin. It is a 5 hour trip and they stop "every
one or two hours" for bathroom breaks. Should be
interesting.

Gotta go pack...more later.

Ciao

Hi Kim,

Congratulations on finally getting Gianna! I have really enjoyed reading about your trip. I just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. I hope the remainder of your trip is as wonderful as it has been so far! Sounds like Chloe is a natural at being a big sister!
